Get Your High School Equivalency Diploma
for Free

Get your High School Equivalency (HSE) at Queens Library! You have the choice of taking either the TASC or NEDP exams, depending on your preferred pathway. Programs are completely FREE with a Queens Library card. These programs are offered in partnership with NYS Education Department.

Two Pathways to High School Equivalency

Pathway #1

Test Assessing Secondary Completion (TASC)

Test Assessing Secondary Completion™ or TASC replaced the GED test in New York State in 2014. The TASC is a state-of-the-art, affordable national high school equivalency assessment that assesses five subject areas including Reading, Writing, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. No structured preparation is required, but supplementary classes are available.

Pathway #2

The National External Diploma Program (NEDP)

National External Diploma Program or NEDP is a web-based assessment program that allows adults to demonstrate transferable skills for which a New York State High School Equivalency diploma may be awarded. NEDP is a competency-based system that expects adults to demonstrate their ability in a series of simulations that parallel job and life situations. In this program, students can work completely online, meet with an assessor weekly, and maintain flexibility and confidentiality. Plus, students can work towards their diploma at home, the library, or wherever they have access to a computer. Get your high school diploma in 6 to 12 months through the NEDP!
