“Who Was…?” Book Club 

Each week we'll focus on one book in this popular biography series, learning about the life of someone outstanding through shared reading, crafts, games, and more. For Black History Month, we'll explore the lives of important African Americans. In March we will learn about influential women for Women’s History Month. It's not necessary to read the books ahead of time. This program is for readers ages 6 to 12. No registration is required.

Getting to Know Langston Hughes

2/4 - Put a poem in your pocket: Copy Langston Hughes' poem "Slave Song" on small piece of paper, create a design or image that relates to the poem.
2/11 - Emoji poetry: With Langston Hughes' poem "Laughers," use emoji or clip art images to fill in for words in the poem.
2/25 - Poem with collage: Using Langston Hughes' poem "One-Way Ticket," create a collage around this poem, using maps, locations, and modes of travel.

An interactive display for Black History Month, Who Am I? shares historically important facts about 17 black Americans. It invites users to read the information and guess to whom the facts are referring, then lift the cover page/fact sheet to reveal the image of the person, along with date of birth and, when applicable, date of death.
