Summer Reading Programming
Queens Public Library is your one-stop shop for summer reading. Our upcoming programs include children’s crafts and storytimes, book groups and author talks for adults, and nature education inspired by our 2022 summer reading theme: Oceans of Possibilities. Summer Art Intensive: Illustrating the Graphic Novel (In-Person)
The graphic novel is a rich gateway to the visual arts through which middle schoolers can traverse worlds and build their own creative voices. In this art intensive, students will explore techniques for visual storytelling through drawing and discussion, including the essentials of establishing a sketchbook practice. Throughout the week, artists will work towards completing the cover art for their own graphic novel. Students will also be introduced to character development, design, plot structure, storyboarding, penciling, inking, coloring, space, and perspective. The series is for middle school students. Registration is required. Major support provided by the New York Life Foundation, the city-wide sponsor Summer Reading and Learning Programs.
