This event will explore the effects of the Greek economic crisis on the lives of the country’s citizens and the efforts of the nonprofit sector to address the immediate humanitarian needs of the country’s most vulnerable groups, while fostering long term economic growth. Join us for a free screening of a documentary followed by a panel discussion moderated by Robert Siegel, senior host of NPR's award-winning evening news magazine All Things Considered.
Lauren Elder is an actress, singer-songwriter, and whistler who lives in New York City. She has appeared in Boardwalk Empire, Louie, and Law & Order SVU ; in the Broadway revival of Side Show; and in the Broadway and West End revivals of Hair. She performs regularly at Feinstein’s 54 Below, Joe's Pub at the Public, Birdland, and other New York City venues. She also writes and performs original music, blending the sweet sounds of the ukulele with folk, jazz and pop influences to create her own unique, whimsical sound.
Queens Library presents an evening of frank conversation with author/professor Jelani Cobb on the history of migration and civil rights in Queens and how it has played out in one of the most diverse boroughs in the nation. He will trace today’s headline-grabbing racial issues back to the role of a local high school.
