Reinvigorating Wise Lives for Individuals 60+

Pre-register for this seven-week workshop series if this sounds like you:

  • Are you 60 or older?
  • Do you live or work in Queens?
  • Are you curious to look back thoughtfully at your own work history and share reflections with others who are doing the same?
  • Do you want a chance to polish your technology and communication skills in a supportive group of peers and instructors?
  • Are you actively looking to secure a new career or employment opportunity OR looking to enrich your life with creative activities aimed at personal growth and introspection?

Queens Memory has partnered with Queens Public Library’s Job and Business Academy to offer a seven-week workshop series aimed to get you where you want to go! Click here to pre-register. Spaces are limited.

Learn to develop your personal life story, pick up solid interviewing techniques, and best of all, record your history for Queens Public Library’s local history collections!

All 90-minute sessions are scheduled Wednesdays from 7-8:30 pm in October and November; participants are required to attend all sessions:

October 6, 13, 20, 27, November 3, 10, 17

Our program will help adults age 60+ build strong interpersonal relationships, friendship, and rapport with others their age, which will last well beyond this experience.

Join us to learn new technologies and other valuable skill sets. Take part in thoughtful reflection, engaged listening, and open-ended discussions that lay the groundwork for future success and fulfillment. As part of this project, you will be partnered with another participant to learn and record each other’s life and work histories and document how they connect to the rich history of the Borough of Queens.

Dedicated staff from the Job & Business Academy and  Queens Memory aim to help participants feel valued and empowered by their maturity, and eager to live better, longer. Participants will receive guided assistance throughout the project to ensure success and enjoyment.

If you are ready to leave your mark in Queens History, register today!

Funding for this initiative was provided by The Fan Fox and Leslie R. Samuels Foundation.

Join us for any of the sessions listed below, and apply above to join a special seven-part storytelling workshop dedicated to a thoughtful look back over your working years. Participants in this seven-part workshop will work together to record each other’s histories for the library’s Queens Memory Project, where future researchers can come to hear what work life was like for the generations before them. There is so much we can learn about ourselves and each other by exploring our decades of making a living.
