It’s back-to-school time! Summer may be over, but a year of exciting growth and discovery awaits you. Prepare at the library by making crafts, attending storytimes, enjoying giveaways, and previewing our fall programs. We’re here to help you get excited about starting the school year – crafts range from keychains to bookworms. There will also be songs and games. Learn about the after-school STACKS program, available at some locations.

We encourage children to do their homework from 3pm to 4pm, read books, and see book-based family movies at 4pm. "Peter Rabbit" (2018, PG) will be shown on September 18, "Dr. Seuss' The Cat in the Hat" (2003, PG) on September 19, and "Matilda" (1996, PG) on September 20.

This is a back-to-school party for children ages 6-12, where they will make their own positive message bracelet using lanyard, beads, and plastic. The children will also learn helpful free fun homework website databases to help with school, including the Queens Library website and the American Museum of Natural History.
Back-to-School Open House

Please join us for back-to-school activities at the Ridgewood Library. There will be a Children's Storytime in the garden at 6pm, then a scavenger hunt for all kids throughout the library. We will also introduce you to our collections, programs, and other resources that support school children and teens in their academic endeavors. Back-to-school giveaways will be available.
Join us as we introduce children and parents to educational resources and provide a tour of the library followed by a fun activity. We will have sessions for the first 3 Fridays at 3:30pm. Space is limited. Registration is required.

This is a day of information and fun for the whole family. Workshops help families navigate educational stages for their children such as pre-K, state testing, and high school entrance exams. These workshops will be bilingual in Chinese and English. Sample STEAM activities for ages 4-12 and virtual reality activities for ages 13+. There will be crafts for ages 4-8, robotic sphero art for ages 8-12, and balloon twisting for all ages. Enjoy poetry readings. Learn how to get library cards, borrow hot spots, and more. Library tours available.

At this time of going back-to-school, reading connects schools and libraries. Let’s celebrate the fall season with reading aloud in different languages. People from all ages are welcome to join the program. Selected candidates will be invited to the stage. This program is funded by the Starr Grant.
