A Week of Kwanzaa: Daily Video: Learn About the Seven Principles (Nguzo Saba) (VIRTUAL)

Each day of Kwanzaa, we will share a video from a member of the Langston Hughes Library community, who will explain the meaning of that day’s Principle and how you can apply it to your daily life.

A Week of Kwanzaa: Umoja (Unity): Pass the Torch (IN-PERSON)

Join us in person as we host “Passing the Torch: A Generational Conversation,” a celebratory dinner with an intriguing conversation. To pass the torch involves trusting your successor to do as good a job (or better) than you have accomplished. Usually, one will pass the torch to someone groomed for the position. Our group of community members will discuss why passing the torch is important and necessary for the success of our community and our nation.

A Week of Kwanzaa: Kujichagulia (Self-Determination): Women in the Struggle (VIRTUAL)

We invite you to celebrate Kujichagulia by watching the film Self Respect, Self Defense & Self Determination (2004, 72 min.) with us, featuring Mabel Williams, Kathleen Cleaver, and an introduction by Angela Davis. Following the film, we will have a powerful conversation with panelists Mae Jackson, Rosemari Mealy, and Azali Cyril.
